Sin
Let's head off to Freeport City!
2000-08-10
Hyperion will soon release Sin. This preview is based on the Windows version of the game. As the game is a straight conversion the gameplay and levels should be the same and the really interesting thing is how well it performs on Amiga. The original Windows release of Sin had some problems. These were long loading times and - to say the least - unoptimized networking support. These problems were adressed in patches that were released some time after the original game release. Let's hope that Hyperion's version will be released with all the improvements so people don't have to download the 18+ meg patch at a later date. The game takes place in Freeport City, and you play Colonel John Blade. You run a private law enforcement agency and you're trying to uncover the reasons for the increased crime in Freeport City that might be related to the local biochemical factory. As you progress through the game you encounter stranger creatures, but let's not give it all away here. Where this game really shines, though, is in multiplayer mode. So far I haven't encountered a better designed multiplayer level for 5-8 persons than Sin City. You will also be able to play on a train in motion and an oil rig (very atmospheric I might add) as well as a lot of other levels. The music changes along with the mood of the game, so it'll add to the tension when the action gets hot. If you're sneaking around the music will quiet down as well. This adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game. One thing that's interesting is that it makes a difference where you hit your enemies. Your enemies will die instantly from a sniper hit straight to the head whereas you'll have to hit more times if you fire at the stomach. The enemies are not zombies with guns either. They will try to get away if they're injured and they will gang up on you if you make a lot of noise and there are enough of them around. On the other hand you might be able to sneak away if you use stealth. One thing that separates this game from the pack is the fact that the weapons aren't all gigantic alien guns etc. but actual weapons that exist today. This adds some extra realism to the game. The gameplay isn't linear, so you will have different gaming experiences depending on how you chose to tackle certain situations. This adds to the replay value of the single player mode. I'm sure you'll all be looking as much forward to the release of this game on the Amiga as us. Prepare for some excellent 3D action.
