Bubble Heroes

Puzzle Bobble clone Bubble Heroes seems to be one of a kind on the Amiga.

2000-07-13

Italian based Arcadia Development's new game Bubble Heroes is based on the legendary Puzzle Bobble. This puzzle game has been released on a number of different versions on different platforms. And despite - or probably due to - the simple idea behind the game, each one has been great fun. Bubble Heroes looks to be aswell. As one of three bubble heroes you take control of a mechanical wheel. This can be rotated to aim in different directions on the playfield. The field has several colored bubbles on it and the main goal is to destroy them all. This is done by shooting bubbles into other bubbles of the same color. When three or more bubbles of the same color touches, they explode. Bubble Heroes can be played in VS mode where you can take on your friends (or the computer). The game also features a story mode where you have to go through different premade levels. This is where the game mainly differs from Puzzle Bobble as a couple of alternative play modes appears. Your selected bubble hero has to go through 4 worlds with a total of more than 60 individual levels. Each world has it own boss monster that you have to fight in VS mode. The graphics is very much on the cute side with a Japaneese manga-style look. Obviously we don't normally see a lot like that on the Amiga, so it's a nice change. Overall everything looks very polished and smooth. Arcadia promises that the game will run at 50 frames per second at any time, despite the many objects on screen. The game will come in an AGA version and a RTG version for graphics card, that is slightly more power hungry (requires a 040 compared to a 020 for the AGA version). The game is currently finished and waiting to be released around September. It will ship on a CD with 180MB of game data and 25 different CDDA music tracks. Every Puzzle Bobble fan (and puzzle fans in general) should look out for this game that appears to have a very high gameplay value. Until the release you can find three different demo versions of the game at the Arcadia website. We will ofcourse bring you a full review when we get our hands on the game.
