Earth 2140 work-in-progress report 3
The final installment of the work-in-progress series is here.
2000-11-23
Since the last time a lot of progress has been done. As a matter of fact the only thing missing now is incorporating the movie player, so all the animations can be played. And here is a piece of good news: All Amigas that meet the game's minimum requirements will be able to play the animations properly. On the downside, however, we have not been able to put networking support into the game in time for a Christmas release, and we know how anxious some of you out there are to play this game, so we'll be releasing an update with networking support once it's complete. There are a lot of improvements now compared to the demo version we released some time ago. First of all double buffering has been incorporated which speeds up some Z2 graphics operations a lot. The way the maps and units are drawn have also been optimized, speeding especially the 68k version up considerably. The PPC version has also gained quite a bit of speed thanks to Haage & Partner being kind enough to provide a pre-release version of Storm C 4 for us to use. Other than that a lot of minor optimizations have brought up the game's speed quite a lot, and we have of course corrected all the bugs that have been reported to us by the people who donwloaded the demo, so hardware compatibility is also better than before. As I am writing this the last few things are being completed, and release is just around the corner. You can preorder your copy already now at Epic Interactive so you're sure to get the game as soon as it's released. I would like to thank everyone who reported bugs to us and gave us suggestions helping us make the best real time strategy game for the Amiga.
