Worms: Armageddon

Worms will soon be back where it all started.

2000-07-05

Once there was an Amiga user named Andy. One day he decided to create his own game. It was based on Scorched Tanks but featured worms instead of tanks. Andy called the game Worms and - thanks to Team 17 (publisher of Project-X, Alien Breed and many more Amiga classics) - the rest is history. A lot of Worms games has been made since then for all imaginable formats. Unfortunately it has been long since we last saw one on the Amiga. With the forthcoming port of Worms: Armageddon, Hyperion is set to change this. Worms: Armageddon is out for the PC, Dreamcast, PlayStation, Nintendo 64 and it is on it's way for the Amiga. So you never heard of Worms? It is pretty simple. Each player has a team of four worms. Two or more teams battle in a randomly generated 2d landscape. The game is turn based and you control one worm at a time. You can move and jump until you run out of movetime. A turn is normally ended when a worm fires his weapon. Worms has always had a bunch of traditional weapons (machine gun, rocket launcher etc) and some totally crazy ones (exploding sheeps, banana bombs etc). The team with the last worm standing is the winner of the match. Worms: Armageddon is pretty much based on Worms 2. Compared to Worms: Director's Cut (which was the last on the Amiga) the resolution is higher and the graphics are much more detailed. There are still a lot of funny sounds and many new silly weapons such as Sheep Launcher, Earthquake and Mole Bomb. For the first time you can have allied teams and the bridges missing in Worms 2 are back. Team 17 has made a lot of effort on the internet play. It is however not known if this feature will be in the Amiga version or not. Worms: Armageddon for the Amiga has been a little delayed but Hyperion is hoping to have their first demo out very soon. We will be looking happily forward to more crazy worm battles but until then we can always play Andy Davidson's original Worms and Worms: Director's Cut.
